Title: Silver Dragons Visits Cascade Rare Coins: A Tour of Our Centralia Shop, Rare Finds, and Navigating Washington Taxes
Here at Cascade Rare Coins (and our DBA Cascade Precious Metals), we were recently thrilled to welcome the popular YouTube channel Silver Dragons to our shop in downtown Centralia, Washington! Operating out of a beautiful 100-year-old building with a classic brick-wall aesthetic, we loved having the opportunity to showcase our unique inventory and talk about the current state of the precious metals market [00:35].
If you missed the video, you can watch the full tour here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=DPAJz-bgNDE&t=30s.
For those looking for a quick recap of the highlights, here is a breakdown of what we covered during the visit!
A Tour of Our Diverse Inventory
We pride ourselves on offering something for every type of stacker and collector. During the tour, Matt walked through our front cases, showing off how we structure our inventory to make browsing as easy as possible:
-
The Bargain & Spot Cases: We start our cases with silver priced at spot, followed by spot-plus-three, and then fixed-price silver [00:56]. We also have a dedicated case where everything is priced at $100 or less, which includes 90% silver under melt, error coins, and world coins [02:12]. We rotate this inventory every few weeks, so there is always something fresh!
-
High-End Numismatics: On the Cascade Rare Coins side of the business, Kellen showcased some of our premium, high-end items [03:01]. This included a very rare Proof Cameo $20 gold piece, a beautifully toned CAC-graded Proof Trade Dollar, a Proof Seated Dollar, and a pristine 1821 Capped Bust Half-Dollar (MS65).
-
Hand-Poured Silver Art: Jeff, our resident bullion art specialist, showcased our incredible selection of poured silver from renowned artists [04:17]. We carry unique pieces from creators like Blue 719 (who incorporates real rubies and diamonds into his pours), Y2 Pores (including a stunning 25g segmented treasure map), GG Links, and intricate micro-pours from Dime Bag Dave.
Navigating Washington State’s Precious Metals Tax
One of the biggest hurdles for buyers in Washington is the state sales tax on precious metals. We are very transparent about this and have structured our inventory to help our customers get the most out of their money.
-
Focusing on Fractional Gold: You might notice we primarily stock 1/4 ounce gold and smaller over the counter [06:04]. Because a 1/4 ounce gold piece typically incurs around $25 in sales tax, many local customers find this much easier to stomach than spending the time and gas money to drive an hour and a half down to Portland, Oregon.
-
Tax-Free Shipping Out-of-State: If you visit us from out of state (or have a residence elsewhere), we do have to charge sales tax if you take the metals out the door with you. However, we can legally ship your purchases to an out-of-state address (like Oregon) to avoid the Washington sales tax [10:57].
-
Selling to Us is Always Tax-Free!: While buying over the counter incurs a tax, selling your metals to us does not. We pay highly competitive rates based on the same nationwide wholesale connections as any other major dealer.
Our Market Outlook: Playing the Long Game
To wrap up the visit, Silver Dragons asked for our take on where gold and silver are heading next [12:01]. While the massive daily price jumps we saw late last year and earlier this year were exciting, we view the current market stabilization as a very healthy sign.
With strong industrial demand and heavy overseas demand (such as in the Shanghai market), we believe precious metals have a great runway ahead. We don't have a crystal ball for what happens next month, but if you look at it from a long-term time horizon, holding rare coins and precious metals is a fantastic strategy—and certainly a better bet than simply holding onto fiat dollars!
Come Visit Us!
We want to give a huge thank you to Silver Dragons for stopping by. If you are ever in the Centralia area, come visit us at Cascade Rare Coins to check out our rotating display cases, browse our high-end numismatics, or chat about the market.
